Petrol Price Rise: Modi HATERS do NOT Mislead the Nation!!

Courtesy : An Oil Industry Expert

Under UPA, when crude oil prices averaged $132 per barrel in July 2008 (it was during that month Brent reached a historic high of $147/b) petrol price was just Rs. 50.62 per litre. Today when oil price is around $80/b, petrol price has reached a high of Rs. 76.57 per litre in Delhi. On the surface it looks like Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been citizen unfriendly. NO.

Natural for anyone to think that when international prices have fallen (by $52/b, 2008 versus 2018), petrol prices in India should also fall. But it has not. It is this simplistic, non-expert thinking which must have impelled or provoked the former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram to tweet that Modi can easily cut petrol price by Rs. 25. However, when we analyse the factors behind the petrol price movement, one will wonder how a responsible leader can mislead the country. It is shocking.

NDA was lucky that soon after it came to power oil prices fell. It wisely decided not to pass on all the benefits to consumers. It increased excise taxes on petrol in small doses from Rs. 9.48 per litre to current rate of Rs. 19.48 per litre and for diesel it was from Rs. 3.56 per litre to 15.33 per litre.

Chidambaram must be aware that under his government policy the public sector oil companies (Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum) were bleeding. He must also be knowing that their irrational pricing policies forced private sector oil companies like Reliance, Essar and Shell to close down their thousands of stations. Their stations were far more efficient than the ones operated by the public sector giants. In addition, the so-called “under recoveries” (in simple term losses) by the public sector companies were reaching stratosphere. In 2012-13 under recoveries of public sector oil companies was mind-boggling Rs. 1.6 trillion.

Here is one more reason to convince critics of Modi that NDA’s policy was far more progressive than the populist policy of UPA. While NDA succeeded in collecting additional revenues of Rs. 4.4 trillions during its four- year rule, UPA incurred a loss of Rs. 4.3 trillions by selling petrol and diesel below cost between 2005-06 and 2014-15. Who are the real beneficiaries of different policies of NDA and UPA?

UPA’s munificence (selling fuels below cost) mostly helped the middle class and the rich. It also increased fiscal deficit resulting in higher inflation which harmed the poor. NDA’s policy of not passing the benefits of lower crude oil price (by imposing additional excise taxes) helped them to finance various welfare measures, reduce fiscal deficit and check the inflation.

I am sure the former Finance Minister must be fully aware of these facts. As suggested by Chidambaram, NDA can reduce excise taxes by Rs. 10 and revert to the level of UPA. But as a consequence what will happen to fiscal deficit? Where will Modi find the additional Rs. 15 to cut? Is he expecting Modi to force oil companies to lose (as happened when he was the Finance Minister) or ask States to reduce their VAT or act as a magician?

Note: Dr. Bhamy V. Shenoy, an IITM graduate, has over 50 years of experience in international oil industry having worked for Conoco in US, and Europe. He was on the board of Georgian National Oil company, Advisor to former Soviet Union countries of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Georgia and also advised Ghanian Government, Pemex in Mexico, Pertamina in Indonesia, etc. In India, he served as a member of Advisory Committee to Chairman of ONGC.

He was senior advisor to Centre for Energy Economics at University of Texas.

Why choose NaMo for the Prime Minister Job?

The end of February 2014 saw the release of another round of disappointing figures on India’s economy.  In the final quarter of 2013, India’s economy grew by 4.7 percent, the fifth consecutive quarter of sub-5 percent growth. The  4.7percent growth rate is far below the 8 percent growth rate that is needed to combat the country’s chronic development challenges.

As India heads towards a landmark election, there is certainly a need to change the  government  as the Congress led UPA’s  dire economic performance has casted a long shadow on people of the country.

The incumbent UPA government, a coalition of left-leaning parties, has long championed an “inclusive” growth model. But its failure to ensure that the benefits of growth have “trickled down” to the poor is well established. When adjusted for variations in the cost of living, 32.7 percent of India’s population live below the international extreme poverty line of $1.25 per day. India is home to a third of the world’s poor and on a host of  other social and development indicators it continues to slip further and further behind other developing countries.

According to figures compiled by the World Bank and McKinsey, since the 1980s India has only lifted 35 million people out of extreme poverty. In China the figure is 678 million. India’s poor poverty-reduction rate is matched by rapid increases in income inequality. In January India’s Business Standard reported income inequality in urban areas across a third of India’s states reached its highest point in 2011-12 since 1973-74.

The widening gap in income levels in urban areas is the product of a number of factors: continued rural-to-urban migration, a contracting industrial sector and a growing under-skilled labor force. India is urbanizing rapidly, with the urban population set to increase from 27.8 percent in 2011 to 38 percent by 2025. The country’s shrinking manufacturing sector has not been able to absorb this migrant labor force, exacerbating the problems of urban unemployment, slum expansion and widening income inequality. These challenges have had a long gestation, and persistent policy neglect is to blame.  It is clear that the Congress led UPA government at the centre continues to be evasive in addressing the legitimate needs of a fast growing urban India.

Manufacturing has the potential to be an engine of growth and development. But owing to bad policies of the Congress led UPA,Indian industry has become the country’s economic “Achilles’ heel.”The country’s manufacturing sector continues to be hobbled by poor electrification, a shortage of skilled workers and inflexible labour laws .

Improving public services, reforming labor regulations and boosting infrastructure are three things which are central to India’s effort to tackle poverty, boost employment and revive industry.

Until then India is witnessing the curious phenomenon of “reverse migration”: due to the lack of manufacturing jobs, 12 million people are set to return to rural areas from cities by 2019. These estimates, produced by Crisil, an Indian research institute, also show that the rate of job creation across both industry and agriculture is declining.

India is famously enjoying a demographic divided: it has a growing population with millions more entering the labor force each year than are leaving it. With a median age of 26 and with almost two-thirds of the population under 35, India is well placed to compete with the aging populations of its Asian economic rivals China and Japan. But India’s vast stock of labour is being squandered by a shortage of jobs, a stumbling manufacturing sector and desperate skill deficits – challenges with serious implications for urban India.

The present government has failed to meet the challenges mentioned above during the last 10 years. It is time to usher in a new era of new economic reforms under the leadership of a visionary leader like Sh. NarendraModi. So let us vote for better economic policies this time, let us vote for BJP, let us endorse Sh. NarendraModi’s candidature for Prime Ministership.

Significance Of Rudraksha

Rudraksha Significance:
courtesy:Hinduism the forgotten facts

Rudraksha is one of the most important things for the devotees of Lord Shiva. The word Rudraksha means the eye of Lord rudra (Rudraksha – rudra + aksha). The Rudraksha beads are worn by the Lord and Its devotees. rudraxa beads proven to have very good positive effect in one who wears it properly is spiritually quite significant.

Puranic Importance of Rudraksham

On the request of the divines Lord Shiva burnt the three daemon forts called tripurasura who were into disruptive activities. God burnt them without even a weapon just by the smile itself ! Three daemons in those forts who were good and devotees of the Lord came out without any harm by the Lord’s Grace ! At this point of time fromt he Three eyes of the Lord Rudra has came out. Since it came from the aksha (eye) of Lord rudra (a role played by the Supreme Shiva), it is called rudraksha.

Glory of Rudraksha

Skanda puranam (3) details the glory of this great ornament.
“Hearing or reading the glory of Rudraksham can drive away the sins of anybody. Be devoted or not, scholar or illiterate, whomsoever it be one who wears the rudrraksa will surely get rid of all the bad deeds. Philosophers call this as mahavrta. There is no deed more virtuous than wearing rudrAxa. One who gets adorned in a sincere and proper way with thousand rudrakshas, all the divines will salute that person. If thousands are not available sixteen each in both the hands, one at the head top, each hand twelve, in the neck thirty-two, six each in the ears shall be worn. One who wears like that is worshipped by others as if they are Lord Rudra. One who wears rudrakshas with pearl, ruby, Spatikam crystals, silver, gold, vaidurya (lapis lazuli), that person is Rudra Himself ! One who wears the emblem of Lord Rudra, the Rudraksham, them the sins do not approach as the darkness cannot approach the sun. The chanting (japa) with rudraksha mala will yield lots of good result. The japa done without that will give the fruit only to the extent of its own glory. Thus very virtuous rudraksha is not worn by anybody, their life gets wasted like that of the one who does not wear Holy Ash (2). The wise who keeps the rudraksha at the head and bathes, gets the benefits of bathing in Ganges, this is beyond doubt. Such rudrakshas even if only one beed is worn that person gets rid of the sin did in many births. One who anoints rudraksa gets the benefit of anointing Shiva linga (1). One, five and fourteen faced rudrakshas are adorable in all the worlds. Human who worships rudraksha, even if he/she is very poor, will get all the wealth.”

Skanda purana also refers to many stories that tell the glory of adorning one with Sri Rudraksham.
How to wear Rudrakshas

Rudrakshas are very Holy. One should wear them with respect and maintain their sanctity. Various ways are suggested by the scriptures on adorning oneself with them. Some of them are:

Garlands of 108, 50, 27 are boon full.

Different Types of RudrAksas

Plant Trees Save Electricity

If you plant trees in and around your houses rather than keeping the place open you will save a lot on electricity and  will help save the environment as well. When you plant trees around your house, you prevent the sunlight to directly come on your house and thereby making the temperature lower in your house and thus reducing the need for air conditioning. When lower air conditioning is needed the lesser will be your power consumption.

So when you plant trees in and around your house you save the planet in 2 ways:

1) Trees generate oxygen which will save the plant and coming generations.

2) Trees make the air-conditioning need less which saves power which in return save the environment and your money as well.

So save trees plant trees love trees as they are your best friends and do work for you 24/7 without asking anything in return.

Interesting Facts About Narendra Modi

A Small NaMo Story – Really Impressive Read

Almost everyone who meets Narendra bhai once will say that he/she has long lasting impression of Narendra Bhai on his/her mind. Today I had a very interesting conversation with my friend in USA. We are friends since our US days and he was bachelor. A sharp guy with finance background and committed swayamsevak, he got married with equally sharp girl graduated from IIT. During the height of Ayodhya agitation in mid 90s when they got married, she was totally in opposition of Ram Janmabhoomi agitation. She had family background of Congress. I met her first time when RSS swayamsevak friends in USA gave me send-off party before I returned to India. She joined the program but stood away during “Prarthana”. But she did come to airport with her hubby to say good bye to me.

She eventually became good friend of Jyoti but never compromised on the issue of Sangh/Hindutva. I met her couple of times later during my US visits and she was always very affectionate.

This is the background. Now the real story. Today this friend of mine called from US after long gap. I casually asked him wht’s his wife’s opinion about Narendrabhai. I expected a very strong negative opinion.

To my surprise he said she is big fan of NM. And reason too is quite interesting. Several years back, before he became CM, NM traveled to US and a meeting with #RSS SwawaySevaks and family was organized in someone’s house. Our friend couple went there but as usual she did not join the meeting and instead preferred to sit in other room. After the meeting was over, NM happened to walk to the same room and found this girl reading newspaper. Out of curiosity, he started talking to her. She told him upfront that she did not agree with Hindutva etc and she belonged to Congress. NaMo continued discussion with her, accepting contribution of Congress in pre-independence and early post-independence days and candidly accepted some of our own limitations.

This 15 minute conversation with NaMo 15 years back still had long lasting impression on this lady, which made her NM’s strong supporter.

As a post script, while NaMo’s charisma has undoubtedly played a big role in this event, it is equally true that open-mindedness of this intelligent person too needs to be appreciated. Today, when my friend was talking to me, he told me that his wife is waiving a tea mug at him. That’s a mug I gave her in mid-90s (along with a small tea-table). They have changed house few times since then and now staying in their own sprawling house but they have still kept that mug and tea-table.. We are really blessed to have friends like this couple.

Should Political Parties Come Under RTI Act?

Should political parties come under RTI act? Should people kept in lawful custody be banned from contesting elections of MLA, MP and MLC?

These are the 2 questions many have been asking to us on this page through your comments. Most of them are low IQ AAP trolls who are intolerant & fanatics and as per them, Arvind Kejriwal created the whole universe and is one stop solution for every single problem in this world. We do not entertain such trolls. However there were some mature members who are regular here and have been asking this same question for the last some days, hence we decided to clear what we think of these issues.

Our take is that these 2 rules are extremely important and should be there in force. Any party Congress, BJP or AAP included should be damned to shame if they do not support them or have not implemented them. Now some of the AAP trolls will say AAP is supporting RTI. But the thing is AAP has not implemented RTI in its system so how can you support something when you have not implemented it within your organization? So AAP supporting RTI is as farce as Congress saying we will bring Economy to 10% growth or for BJP to say, we will bring in Uniform Civil Code and banish Article 370. All the parties promise a lot before elections but when they come to power, they forget it. For AAP, it is so easy to promise a lot, but their intentions are clear from the fact that they have not implemented RTI in AAP itself.

Now, In one of our earlier posts we had said that, irrespective of any political party, we would question their hypocrisy be it Congress, BJP, SP, BSP, CPM DMK or AAP. So as of now I would safely say that none of the parties (BJP and AAP) included support RTI for political parties. Their leaders may make tall claims but actions is quite contrasting and it is actions which matter not words.

Now I would come to the original question, should political parties follow these 2 rules? My answer is a FIRM YES.
Should they be cursed and criticized if they oppose to follow these rules? Again a DEFINITE ‘YES’

But in this ‘josh’ (ultra excitement) we forget basic things. There is something known as priority. Right now in the country how many people do you think get 3 meals per day? How many have decent enough Job to satisfy basic needs of food, shelter, clothing, education and entertainment? How many of you can travel between 2 places without having spend 1 hour in traffic jams? If we have trains which can travel at 400 km per hour, we can commute daily to Big cities while staying in nearby cities, thereby saving a lot of money which goes on House Rent due to staying in Big cities. How many of you get proper healthcare and hospital benefits? How many of you get proper safe drinking water? How many of you think that you are safe from Terrorist attacks?

As per Economics Resources are limited and I would rather have the current resources allocated in addressing the above problems and not in RTI or Lokayukta or Lokpal and all that jazz. Clearly, that does not mean political parties should escape transparency, but we MORE IMPORTANT issues to address. It would be a shame that despite having 1.3 billion plus brains, we are forced a sub standard living. So RTI, No criminal in politics etc should definitely come but not at the cost of above things.

Further I have my own reservations on political parties under RTI and not allowing lawful custody to contest elections which I would tell you in sometime. But as of now the only thing is there are lot of people who would try to mislead you. Do not fall into their trap. Now whenever your local politicians/candidates come to you, don’t ask them, “WHAT THEY WILL DO” rather ask them “WHAT THEY HAVE DONE TILL NOW” and being in power has no bearing to this question. We the people of India should set the agenda for politicians in elections and not the other way around so ask these politicians what they have done to achieve above mentioned points, along with some other development related problem at your local level.
